Guide

Buying luxury fashion online safely

Essential checks before spending significant amounts on a fashion site. Written by those evaluating suppliers and partners since 1917.

I — The First Check

Verify that it is an authorized retailer

This is the most important check. An authorized retailer buys directly from maisons or official distributors: guarantees authenticity, intact labels, and official brand assistance. Look for a dedicated authenticity page on the site (here is ours) and be wary of those who don’t declare the origin of the goods.

II — The Goods

Owned stock, no dropshipping

If the seller physically stores the goods in their own warehouse, they check quality and packaging before shipping and know actual availability. Dropshipping — shipping from unknown third parties — multiplies risks: unpredictable times, unchecked items, complicated returns.

III — Reputation

Verified reviews, not generic testimonials

Look for independent review platforms with verified purchases, in significant volume (hundreds or thousands, not just tens). Also read negative reviews: transparency and how the seller responds matter. Our over 4,600 verified reviews are public, including criticisms.

IV — The Written Rules

Clear policies on shipping, returns, and refunds

A serious seller clearly states in writing: shipping times, return procedures, refund timelines. If this information is vague or hard to find, it’s a warning sign. Also verify that payment is made through secure channels (cards, PayPal, regulated installment systems).

V — The Story

A verifiable history and a physical store

A boutique with a physical location, Italian VAT number, and documented history offers guarantees that an anonymous site cannot: there is a place, a family, a reputation built over decades. Ours is in Roccapiemonte (Salerno), since 1917.

VI — Common Sense

Beware of prices that are too good to be true

Discounts of 70-80% on current collections of luxury brands almost always indicate counterfeiting or fraud. Genuine sales exist, but on past collections and during defined periods, with verifiable original prices.

VIII — Frequently Asked Questions

The answers that matter

How do I recognize a reliable luxury e-commerce?
Use the checklist above: authorization, own stock, verified reviews, written policies, real headquarters. Five minutes are enough to eliminate almost all risks.

Do signed garments bought online come with tags and guarantees?
From an authorized retailer, yes, always: tags, labels, dust bags, certificates, and original maison packaging. Their absence is a serious warning sign.

Is a large marketplace or a boutique safer?
Both can be safe. The difference: the boutique personally guarantees everything it sells, while the marketplace hosts third-party sellers of varying quality. Here we explain when one is preferable over the other.

Safety is not an option in luxury.
This is luxury.
